Description

A small bronze study of a seated figure, cast in Vilnius in the 1970s by a sculptor who worked mostly on public commissions and rarely signed his smaller pieces. The surface keeps its original dark patina, with honest wear on the knees and along the front edge of the base where it has been picked up over fifty years. It came from the family of the original owner, who bought it directly from the artist after seeing a larger version of the same figure installed outside a cultural centre on the outskirts of the city. The casting is solid rather than hollow, which is unusual for studies of this size and gives it a weight that surprises people lifting it for the first time. No restoration has been carried out, and the base has never been redrilled or remounted.
