Description

Do you play the violin? Your instrument could be more than a passion — it could also be a smart investment if crafted by a renowned master. This Venetian violin, made by the esteemed luthier Carlo Tononi, was discovered in Latvia this summer using our DAC (Decentralized Art Consulting) system, which is part of the CoArt Marketplace ecosystem. Currently, the instrument is privately owned.
Historical Significance & Auction Record: Tononi’s instruments have a rich auction history, with the highest recorded sale reaching $362,586 at Brompton’s Auction on October 6, 2010. Another Tononi violin will be auctioned at Brompton’s from October 18 to 28, 2024. We are eager to see how the market values this remarkable piece.
Authenticity & Expert Verification: While the authenticity of the violin has been initially verified by CoArt Marketplace’s decentralized expert group, full certification requires a more detailed analysis by specialized experts. We are currently in contact with two qualified professionals, and we expect the complete authentication to be finalized before this extraordinary instrument goes to auction on our platform in December 2026

Private collections in Latvia

It is believed that this violin made its way to Latvia after World War II, possibly brought by Soviet soldiers. No legal issues are anticipated regarding its origin, as one of our international legal advisors recently completed a specialized course at Christie’s on handling assets transported from Germany during the war.
